I was not compensated for writing this post. McDonald’s provided a promotional item as part of their “Commitments to Offer Improved Nutrition Choices” campaign. My opinions are 100% honest and 100% mine.
As you are probably already aware, McDonald’s Happy Meals feature kid-size French fries and apple slices, along with fat-free chocolate milk or 1% low-fat white milk drink options. Now, you can also get a low-fat yogurt side! That’s right — you can now get a GoGurt Happy Meal!
The GoGurt Happy Meal allows you to choose low-fat strawberry yogurt in addition to apple slices, in place of fries, or you can select fries and either GoGurt or apple slices. The low-fat strawberry GoGurt is exclusive to McDonald’s and has only 50 calories. It is made with natural flavor and has 25 percent less sugar than the leading children’s yogurt. Each serving provides approximately one-quarter cup of low-fat dairy, a good source of Vitamin D and calcium.
The decision to include GoGurt in Happy Meals is another step in the McDonald’s partnership with the Alliance for a Healthier Generation, which was founded by the American Heart Association and Clinton Foundation, aimed to reduce childhood obesity and empower children to develop healthy habits for life.
Apple slices were introduced in Happy Meals and Mighty Kids Meals in March 2012 and since then, 1.1 billion portions have been served to customers. Later this year, McDonald’s USA will only promote milk, juice, and water as beverage choices in Happy Meals and Mighty Kids meals.
The GoGurt Happy Meal isn’t the only change at McDonald’s — they’ve also introduced “Happy,” a new, animated Happy Meal character who is an ambassador for balanced eating. Happy encourages kids to eat fruit, veggies, low-fat dairy, water, and juice.
Exciting changes at McDonald’s, am I right?
And here’s some exciting news: Five winners will each get FOUR coupons for free Happy Meals! Sweet! This giveaway is open to U.S. residents and ends July 29 at 11:59 p.m. EST.
