Your health — and the health of your family — are vitally important. Cigna knows that’s important to you and has provided some great suggestions on how to stay ahead of healthcare issues — and healthcare expenses!
You really can’t afford (literally or figuratively) to ignore these health tips!
Mid-Year Health Check-in Tips:
- Plan! Include healthcare expenses as part of your household expenses — something that we don’t often do. The better you anticipate upcoming costs, the more you can save while still getting the best care for you and your family! For instance, review what you’ve spent so far in regard to healthcare. Will anyone need glasses or extensive dental care (like braces) in the upcoming year? Knowing what you’re spending now (and planning for you will be spending) will help you budget appropriately.
- Prepare! Don’t wait until an emergency arises to gather the information you need, such as where your closest urgent care center is located. In general, an urgent care center provides the same level of care as your local ER (for non-emergency situations, of course) without the l-o-n-g wait and high price tag. Find out if your health plan has a 24-hour nurse hotline, an excellent source for medical advice. Know the phone number to your regular pharmacy so that prescriptions can be called in right from your doctor’s office, saving you valuable time.
- Prevent! Many healthcare plans, like Cigna, offer valuable preventative services that can make a significant difference between good health and illness. Visit your doctor each year for a routine examination/check-up (this is in addition to the times that you go when you’re sick!)…picking a memorable date will help make it easier to remember. For instance, each year, I schedule my check-up during the month of my birthday. Pretty hard to forget that one! But don’t miss out on the free services offered, like access to nurses and dietitians, who can offer free advice and answer your questions.
