I was so excited last week when I discovered that one of my local radio stations had begun playing all Christmas music all the time. Happy days! So, what the heck, why not come up with a list of my Top 10 Christmas Songs?
Yep, I’m one of those. I decorated my house about 10 days ago. Yes. With Christmas decorations. I cannot wait to get a tree. Cannot. Wait.
So, since I a) love to make lists and b) love Christmas, I thought I’d start off the holiday season (for me, anyway) with my Top 10 Christmas songs.
Dean Martin, “Baby, It’s Cold Outside”
I love this song…I know it’s old-fashioned, but it holds so many memories…listening to this is like hearing the fire crackle in my grandparents’ house on Christmas Eve and smelling all the wonderful food simmering in the kitchen and spending the best of times with my family.
I love this song. Don’t judge me!
Stop looking at me like that. This is vintage awesomeness.
I’m surprised as you that the Muppets have made the list on my Top 10 Christmas songs but, come on, who doesn’t love this? This is actually one of my favorite versions of “The Twelve Days of Christmas.” Ba-dum-bum-bum!
This sounds like my Christmas list. Not a huge fan of Madonna’s version, although it’s listenable (barely). The original, as usual, is superior.
(Same commentary on my first Frank Sinatra choice applies here.)
Mariah Carey, “All I Want for Christmas”
This song is so much fun. This is one of the few exceptions to my general rule of thumb that I do not like “new” Christmas songs. And, by new, I mean anything since the 70s.
Doesn’t this make you just want to dance around the room while belting this tune out? I mean, not that I would. That would be…so…incredibly lame. Don’t judge me!
This is yet another song (from an iconic album) from my youth. It’s a great song…it’s hard to pick just one from The Christmas Album.
I love Harry Connick Jr. — his Christmas songs in particular. This was also tough to pick just one. I love his version of “Ave Maria” as well.
Do you have a Top 10 Christmas Songs? What’s on your list?
While we’re at it, don’t miss the Christmas songs I hate. OK, not hate…how about “The Christmas Songs I don’t particularly enjoy?”
